OCD and Celebrities

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (aka OCD) is not a rare thing even in Hollywood. More and more celebrities admit they suffer from disorders which can be characterized by their obsessive rituals, strange habits and bizarre compulsions. From Alec Baldwin’s fixation with cleaning every surface in his house (on his own and not have the housekeeper do it!), through Cameron Diaz’s door knob juggling skills to Jennifer Love Hewitt’s closet-door-related insomnia, our favourite starts admit their peculiarities and struggle with various stages of OCD.

Alec Baldwin

Alec Balwdin with a whiskey glassThe star from The Aviator and one of my mum’s (and mine) all-time favourite Hollywood super cuties admits to having a problem with cleaning. Before you rush to any conclusions, let me enlighten you – he DOES clean. Actually, he does it a bit too much. Instead of allowing his housekeeper to take over all the housework, Alec often finds he simply must wash and polish the glasses or rearrange the bookshelves.

Cameron Diaz

The lead from The Sweetest Thing is not afraid to share her deepest fear – touching germ-infested surfaces. Not only does she open doors with her elbows to prevent any contact with the unhygienic doorknob but she also deep cleans her entire dwelling several times a day. While the Cameron waves it off as a small issue, innocently claiming “I’m not into other people’s fluids”, we at Fantastic Cleaners can surely recognize the signs of OCD in the behaviour of the star.

Jennifer Love Hewitt

Jennifer Love Hewitt in bedWith the second season of The Client List well on its way, Jennifer Love Hewitt is once again in the spotlight. The star from I Know What You Did Last Summer and Ghost Whisperer shines once again with brilliant acting skills. What the fans don’t know is that behind that sweet face is a woman of sheer determination, stubborn and always ready to fight for what she believes in… and with a healthy (or not that much) dose of OCD.

Jennifer believes that her Obsessive Compulsive Disorder has helped her build her career but it also prevents her from sleeping sometimes. The star claims that she can’t go to sleep if there is as much as an open cabinet door somewhere in her home.

I don’t know about you but learning about the obsessions of the celebrities makes me feel a bit better about my own peculiarities. Let’s take the kitchen countertops, for instance – I can’t go to sleep if there is so much as a bread crumb on them. However, when it comes to the mess in the living room – not my problem!

Would you care to share some of your little “passions”?
